Have fun, relax and unwind – the recreational possibilities along this historic treasure are abundant year-round! In addition to cycling, walking, running and paddling, you can snowshoe on the Towpath Trail during the winter months, when conditions permit. WALKING & BIKING
The Feeder Canal Towpath Trail is a seven-mile-long trail suitable for walking, running or biking from the Feeder Dam in Queensbury to the Village of Fort Edward. The safe and family friendly stone-dust trail is a conduit to other bicycle trails such as the Champlain Canalway Trail, the Empire State Trail, the Warren County Bicycle Trail and the Betar Byway. Miles and miles of trail and lots of access and parking.
BIRDWATCHING
There’s lots of birdwatching to be done on the Feeder Canal Towpath trail. The Southern Adirondack Audubon Society encourages you to get out there to start looking for and observing birds and mentions the Towpath Road in Kingsbury as a great place to look for birds. The Washington County Grassland Trust, an important and unique area hosting abundant grassland breeding birds and wintering raptors.
PADDLING
The Feeder Canal is suitable for canoeing / kayaking for five miles from the beginning of the Canal at the Feeder Dam in Queensbury to the take-out at the Martindale Boat Basin on Martindale Avenue in Hudson Falls. The water is around 4 -6 feet deep with a gentle current. A dock is available at the Moore Memorial Bridge at the Feeder Dam in the Town of Queensbury. Parking is available at the park near the dam and Boat Basin in Hudson Falls.
Events
The Feeder Canal Alliance participates in the Glens Falls Brewfest and hosts annual events such as Clean Up Day, Canoe/Kayak Race and Pumpkin Painting.
Discover the Past
From the early 1800’s until 1928 the Feeder Canal provided a means of transportation by canal boats for people and goods. The canal and towpath today provide a glimpse into the past.
